Multi-Car Crash on Highway 84 Near Ashford Results in Road Closure

ASHFORD, Ala. — A multi-vehicle collision on Highway 84 near Bluff Springs Road caused a significant traffic disruption Monday night. The crash occurred around 9:50 p.m., leading to the closure of the roadway for several hours as emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the incident was triggered when a commercial truck, struggling with low visibility due to heavy smoke in the area, abruptly braked. The smoke, which had settled over the highway, was reportedly caused by an unknown nearby fire. The sudden braking led to a chain reaction, involving six passenger vehicles and two additional commercial trucks.

Fortunately, only one person sustained minor injuries in the crash, though authorities did not immediately release further details about the individual. While crews worked to clear the debris, the road remained closed for several hours, causing significant delays for drivers in the area.

ALEA officials are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire that generated the thick smoke, but no further details have been provided at this time.

Motorists traveling on Highway 84 were advised to find alternate routes as cleanup efforts continued.
