DOTHAN, Ala. — A man was injured in a fire that broke out Thursday afternoon at Alabaster Bay Apartments, located off U.S. Highway 231 on East Wayne Road. The fire occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m., and local authorities responded quickly to the scene.
According to Dothan Fire Chief Chris Ethridge, the fire was sparked by an “accidental cooking fire” in the kitchen. The blaze was contained to the kitchen area, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the apartment.
The injured man suffered significant burns to one of his arms and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He is expected to be transferred to a burn center for further care.
Fortunately, the fire caused minimal damage to the apartment. Fire officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the incident, though it has been confirmed that the fire began in the kitchen.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety in the home, especially when cooking. Authorities urge residents to remain cautious when using stoves and other appliances.
