Over 40 Drivers Stranded in Northern Dale County Amid Historic Winter Weather

DALE COUNTY, Ala. — More than 40 drivers found themselves stranded at the intersection of U.S. Highway 231 and Alabama Highway 51 on Tuesday night, as a historic winter weather event continued to impact roadways across the Wiregrass region.

In a statement posted on their Facebook page, the Dale County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) confirmed that they were working in close collaboration with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to ensure the safety of motorists who were stuck in the Rocky Head community. Emergency teams are actively working to assist those affected, and resources from the Alabama National Guard are also being dispatched to provide additional support.

Despite the ongoing efforts, the situation remains challenging. DCSO officials warned that all roadways in the county — including local, state, and federal routes — remain impassable. Authorities advised against any non-essential travel, urging residents to stay off the roads until conditions improve.

The sheriff’s office continued to monitor the situation and assured the public that they would provide updates as more information becomes available.

As the region braces for continued extreme weather, local authorities are prioritizing the safety of stranded motorists and working to restore access to affected areas.
