DOTHAN, Ala. — A man accused of firing into an occupied apartment on Tuesday was previously one of six individuals arrested in 2021 and charged with capital murder in connection with the death of a Pansey man. Tyshawn Ford, 20, was apprehended on Tuesday afternoon after being captured on camera shooting into an apartment at the Martin Home Apartments, located in the 700 block of Tuskegee Avenue.
According to the Houston County District Attorney, Russ Goodman, Ford was already facing serious charges in the 2021 death of Hardy Gray, whose body was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in late November 2021. Ford and five others—Cierra Goodson, Elijah Hazell, Mykeila Rowser, and an unnamed minor—were arrested two months later and charged with capital murder. Investigators revealed that the group had initially gone to Gray’s residence under the pretense of performing a sexual favor, which led to a fatal confrontation.
At the time of Gray’s death, Ford was a juvenile, which initially prevented his immediate identification as a suspect. However, after turning 18, he became fully involved in the case. Ford is currently facing charges for the alleged shooting into an occupied apartment, and authorities have noted that he committed this crime while out on bond for the capital murder case.
The circumstances surrounding his bond in the capital murder case remain unclear. Goodman stated that the decision to grant bond was made by the previous district attorney, and it is unknown why Ford was allowed to remain free while awaiting trial. Following his most recent arrest, Ford is being held in the Houston County Jail, and a judge is expected to revoke his bond for the 2021 capital murder charge.
Ford’s ongoing legal troubles have raised questions about the adequacy of the bond decision and the public safety risks posed by individuals charged with serious crimes being allowed to remain free while awaiting trial. The case continues to unfold as authorities work to address the allegations against him.
As of now, the investigation into the shooting at the Martin Home Apartments remains ongoing. Ford faces both the potential revocation of his bond in the capital murder case and additional charges related to the recent incident.
