Beulah Woman Dies Following Attack by Neighbor’s Dogs

Beulah, Ala. – A Beulah woman has tragically died after being attacked by her neighbor’s dogs. Patricia Burt, 78, passed away at 10:21 a.m. CT on February 25, 2025, at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia, according to Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton.

The fatal incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. CT on February 24, when Burt, who was visiting her neighbor, was attacked by two Cane Corso dogs. The dogs, which had been confined to an enclosure, managed to escape and lunged at Burt as she approached to greet her neighbor. Authorities say that Burt was attempting to hug her neighbor when the dogs began their assault.

Burt’s husband and the dog’s owner attempted to intervene. In a desperate attempt to protect his wife, Burt’s husband drew a gun and shot both dogs, ending the attack. Despite efforts to save her, Burt sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital. She was later pronounced dead from her injuries.

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones described the incident as a “horrific, tragic set of circumstances” involving neighbors who had no prior issues with one another. Sheriff Jones also confirmed that there had been no previous complaints or incidents involving the dogs before this attack.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack. Burt’s body will undergo a postmortem examination at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery. The case will eventually be presented to a grand jury.

As authorities work to understand the events that led to this tragedy, the community is left in shock. Friends and neighbors remember Burt as a kind and friendly individual, making her death even more difficult for those who knew her. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
