Investigation Underway Following Officer-Involved Shooting in Covington County

Covington County, Ala. — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place Sunday morning in Covington County. The incident occurred after multiple “911 hang-ups” were reported from Chad Sheehan, a man with a known history of domestic violence.

According to the Covington County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched to a home on County Road 21 in Red Level for a welfare check on Sunday. Upon arrival, the deputy noticed the lights were on inside the residence. As the officer approached the property, a vehicle suddenly rammed through a gate and charged toward the deputy.

Sheehan, who did not live at the residence, reportedly exited the vehicle with a firearm and advanced toward the deputy. In response, the officer fired several shots, striking Sheehan. Following the incident, the deputy immediately provided life-saving measures and transported Sheehan to Andalusia Hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sheriff Blake Turnman issued a statement following the shooting, reassuring the community that there is currently no public safety risk from Sheehan. “We will keep the community informed as the situation unfolds,” Sheriff Turnman said.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has taken over the case and is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. Charges against Sheehan are expected, though details have not yet been released.

The shooting has raised concerns in the community, but law enforcement officials emphasized that no further immediate threat to public safety exists at this time.
