Dothan Announces Music Competition for Local Musicians at the Opera House

DOTHAN, Ala. — This summer, Wiregrass musicians have a unique opportunity to showcase their talent at the historic Dothan Opera House, thanks to The Circle Sessions, a new music competition presented by Visit Dothan in partnership with Tixr and Mitchell Automotive Group.

The competition is open to all musicians, regardless of their hometown, and there are no genre restrictions, allowing artists of all backgrounds to apply. Six talented applicants will be selected to compete in the final event at the newly renovated Opera House.

Each act will be allowed to perform with up to two instruments, including acoustic or electric guitars, keyboards, and drum machines. Percussion instruments are permitted, but only if played by one of the performers as their primary instrument. Full drum kits, backing tracks, and large setups will not be allowed.

The selected participants will be notified by the end of May, with a mandatory rehearsal scheduled for July 18. The live competition will take place the following day, July 19, at the Dothan Opera House. During the competition, each artist will perform two original songs in the first round, with the final round featuring an additional two original songs plus a unique cover.

The grand prize for the competition winner includes $3,000 in cash, one year of social media coaching, exclusive one-on-one time with an industry professional, and a headlining performance at the Porter Park Amphitheater. The second-place winner will receive $2,000, six months of social media coaching, and an opening slot for the Porter Park Amphitheater performance.

The Circle Sessions is open to both solo artists and duos, with a maximum of two performers allowed on stage. Applications are now open and will close on April 30.

This competition offers a fantastic platform for local musicians to gain exposure and further their careers, making it an exciting opportunity for artists across the region.
