DOTHAN, Ala. — A lightning strike caused a fire at the Stone Creek Landing condominium complex clubhouse Sunday, as strong storms swept through the area.
According to fire officials, the lightning hit the clubhouse and traveled through the building’s electrical system, sparking a fire that resulted in significant damage. The roof of the clubhouse and parts of the exterior were severely affected by the blaze.
Firefighters responded to the scene quickly, but the damage to the structure was already extensive. Stone Creek Landing is currently working with an insurance adjuster to determine whether the building is a total loss.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and it is unclear if anyone was inside the building when the lightning struck. The storm had been producing heavy rain, wind, and electrical activity in the area at the time of the incident.
Residents and officials alike are awaiting the insurance assessment, which will help determine the next steps for repairs and rebuilding.
