TROY, Ala. — A Tuskegee man is behind bars in Pike County after authorities accused him of looting in Troy following a destructive tornado that tore through the area on Saturday night.
Alfonso Lark, 54, was arrested on Monday and charged with felony looting. According to Troy Police, Lark was caught attempting to steal from a building located in the 7000 block of Highway 29 North, an area heavily damaged by the recent storm. Authorities have yet to confirm whether the crime took place at a residence or a business.
The tornado and severe storms ravaged Pike County, impacting Troy and the nearby Banks community, leaving behind widespread destruction. In the wake of the storm, Lark’s alleged criminal behavior drew the attention of local law enforcement, who were quick to respond.
Troy Police Chief Danny Baron expressed strong disapproval of looting, emphasizing the importance of community support during such trying times. “The Troy Police Department will not tolerate any crime—especially crimes of opportunity—during a time when our community is already suffering the loss of valuable property due to this devastating storm,” said Baron. “We have been encouraged by the overwhelming outpouring of support from our residents as they come together to help their neighbors in need.”
Lark was arrested at the scene and transported to Pike County Jail, where he was booked on a $2,500 bond. Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the damage caused by the tornado, and the local community remains focused on recovery efforts.
