Investigation Underway After Toddler Found Dead in Houston County Pool

DOTHAN, Ala. — Authorities are investigating the tragic death of a two-year-old found in an above-ground pool in the Hodgesville community of Houston County. The victim has been identified as Diego Caple by Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd.

The incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. when the child’s father discovered Diego floating in the pool behind a residence located on the 5300 block of Hodgesville Road. After the discovery, Diego was quickly transported to Southeast Health Emergency Room where medical staff attempted to revive him. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

According to Coroner Byrd, the drowning is believed to have taken place sometime between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. that morning. The cause of death remains under investigation, and the boy’s body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

Houston County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Cpl. Brandon Barnes confirmed that a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Diego’s death has been launched, as is standard procedure in such cases.

The investigation is still in its early stages, and authorities are working to piece together the events leading to this heartbreaking incident.

As the investigation continues, the community remains in shock over the tragic loss of the young child.
