DOTHAN, Ala. — A trial date has been set for Solomon Cooper, a Georgia man accused of shooting 20-year-old Sincere Tyson while he slept in his Dothan apartment. The shooting, which occurred in October 2021, followed a birthday celebration and has resulted in charges of capital murder for Cooper.
Cooper was scheduled to appear before Judge Steensland for a status hearing on Wednesday, which is a procedural hearing to ensure both the defense and prosecution are prepared for trial. However, the hearing was continued until June due to an incident involving one of Cooper’s attorneys. Sources close to the case confirmed to WDHN that Cooper’s trial has now been scheduled for September.
The charges against Cooper stem from the fatal shooting of Tyson, who was reportedly shot at least once while he was asleep in his Abbey-Oaks apartment. Authorities allege that the incident occurred following a birthday party Tyson had attended earlier that evening.
Cooper was arrested a month after the shooting, in Muscogee County, Georgia, on separate charges unrelated to the Dothan case. The investigation into Tyson’s death also involved multiple suspects, including Zycheria Russ, who recently pleaded guilty to felony murder in connection with the case.
As the trial approaches, the legal teams involved will likely continue to prepare for what is expected to be a high-profile case. Local residents and those following the proceedings will await further developments in September.
The case is expected to draw attention due to the nature of the charges, as well as the involvement of multiple suspects in the alleged crime.
