Dothan, AL – The Dothan Fire Department announced the start of training for its newest group of firefighter recruits, known as the department’s “Red Shirts.”
According to the department, the recruits are beginning their journey alongside 13 additional trainees representing five other departments from across the Wiregrass region.
Over the coming weeks, the recruits will face physical, mental, and emotional challenges as part of their training.
Officials said the program is designed to build strength, discipline, and teamwork while preparing the participants to serve their communities as firefighters.
The department said the training marks the beginning of a process where commitment is tested, character is developed, and the foundation of public service is established for the next generation of firefighters.
