DOTHAN, Ala. — An 11-year-old boy is recovering after being accidentally shot Wednesday afternoon in Dothan. The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Fox Valley Drive when a 17-year-old boy was reportedly handling a firearm recklessly, causing it to discharge.
According to Dothan Police, the 17-year-old boy was not intentionally aiming the weapon but was mishandling it when it went off, striking the younger boy in the shoulder. The victim, whose injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, was quickly transported to Flowers Hospital for treatment.
A significant police presence was observed at the hospital’s Emergency Room following the shooting, as authorities worked to manage the situation. The 17-year-old suspect fled the scene shortly after the incident but was soon apprehended by officers.
