DOTHAN, Ala. – Dorsey Love, an Ashford resident, has entered a not guilty plea in connection with accusations that he strangled Dothan pageant queen, Lindsay Shiver. The indictment, issued in April, accuses Love of assaulting Shiver by placing his hands around her neck, cutting off her airflow. Love’s plea was filed on Thursday, May 1, following his arrest in connection with the case.
The alleged incident took place in 2022 and was preceded by a protection order filed by Shiver against Love in July of that year. According to the order, Shiver claimed Love had thrown her onto a bed, attempted to choke her, and suffocated her with a pillow inside a residence on North Cherokee Street. The protection order also detailed another alleged assault that occurred during a trip to Tampa, Florida, though Shiver did not report the incident to authorities at the time.
Shiver, a former National Peanut Festival pageant contestant, has been the subject of international attention due to separate legal issues. In August 2023, she was arrested by Bahamian authorities for her involvement in a murder-for-hire plot aimed at her husband, Robert Shiver. According to Bahamian authorities, Shiver conspired with her lover, Terrance Bethel, and his associate, Faron Newbold, to have her husband killed. During the investigation, authorities allege that Shiver sent photos of Robert Shiver to Newbold Jr., accompanied by a message reading, “Kill him” via WhatsApp.
Although Shiver, Bethel, and Newbold were arrested, all three were later released on bond. However, Shiver’s legal troubles have continued to impact the course of her trials. Despite repeated delays, her trial in the Bahamas has yet to take place. As for Love’s case, its outcome could be affected by Shiver’s ongoing legal issues. If Shiver remains imprisoned in the Bahamas during Love’s trial, prosecutors could face difficulties proceeding with the case, as Shiver’s testimony would be key to the charges against him.
The intersection of the two cases has left many questions about the potential impact on both legal proceedings. As Love’s case progresses, attention will likely turn to whether Shiver’s involvement in the murder-for-hire plot and her status in the Bahamas trial could affect the outcome of the charges against him.
