GADSDEN, Ala. — Authorities have recovered the body of a woman who had been missing since the weekend in the Black Creek area near Noccalula Falls.
Regina Smith, 51, of Lincoln, was found Tuesday morning at approximately 11 a.m., according to Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford. Smith was last seen by family members on a raft in Black Creek near the falls on Sunday.
Search efforts intensified after she was reported missing, with crews conducting extensive searches throughout Monday. The Gadsden Fire Department deployed a drone equipped with an infrared camera for a final sweep of the gorge around 7:45 p.m. Monday, but Smith was not located at that time.
The discovery of Smith’s body marks the conclusion of the search efforts. Authorities have not released details regarding the cause of death, and an investigation is ongoing.
The community extends its condolences to Smith’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
