Chancellor Man Denied Bond After Allegedly Threatening Investigator

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. — A 39-year-old Chancellor man was denied bond in Houston County court Thursday following his first appearance, after being charged with making terrorist threats against a local investigator.

Victor Newman, who resides in Geneva County, was arrested on February 25, 2025, after authorities say he made threats to cause harm to an individual or property during an incident on February 19, 2025. According to court testimony, Newman allegedly targeted the criminal investigator handling his case, making explicit threats that were later substantiated by disturbing evidence.

The court was informed that Newman had obtained photos of the investigator’s home and family. The investigator reportedly received threatening messages via text and voicemail, in which Newman allegedly threatened to kidnap, rape, and murder members of the investigator’s family.

The severity of the threats led to Newman’s arrest, and he remains in the Houston County Jail as a result of the court’s decision to deny him bond. His case continues to develop as authorities work to address the serious charges against him.

Newman’s arrest has raised concerns about the safety of law enforcement personnel and their families, underscoring the risks faced by those in the line of duty. The investigation into the threats continues, and Newman will face further legal proceedings as the case moves forward.
