ASHFORD, Ala. — A local family in Ashford, Alabama, is counting their blessings after narrowly escaping a devastating house fire that destroyed their dream home on Friday afternoon. Amanda and Jason Boyd, along with their three daughters and seven animals, were inside their home when the fire broke out. However, thanks to the swift actions of a Good Samaritan, they all managed to make it out alive.
The fire began near the carport of the Boyds’ home on Bluff Springs Road. As flames quickly spread, a passing driver noticed the smoke and immediately sprang into action. The Good Samaritan approached the house and knocked on the door, alerting the family to the danger inside.
Jason Boyd, who was at work when the fire started, recalled how his daughter had called to inform him of the emergency. “We got back, and the house was totally engulfed in flames,” Jason said. “It’s surreal watching 49 years of your life go up in smoke. I mean, it was everything, and this was our dream home.”
The family managed to escape just moments before two propane tanks near the carport exploded, sending the fire into an even more destructive fury. Luckily, a family friend who was at the home was also able to help by gathering all the animals and placing them safely in her car before fleeing the area.
Although the home has been deemed a total loss, the Boyds are thankful no one was injured. Several fire crews from different agencies responded to the scene, and the fire was eventually brought under control.
While the family works to process their grief and loss, they are finding strength in the support from their community. “Our friend group and family are absolutely amazing,” Jason said. “Everybody has put their lives on the line to help us. We have a friend who graciously offered their camper to us, so we’re going to be staying in that for a little bit while we rebuild.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but for now, the Boyds are focused on the long journey ahead, working to rebuild their lives with the support of their loved ones. Despite the overwhelming loss, they remain hopeful for the future.
