Diver Found Dead After Rescue Operation at Twin Caves in Jackson County, Alabama

DOTHAN, Ala. — A diver has tragically died following a rescue operation at Twin Caves in Jackson County, just over the Alabama-Florida state line. The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 18, when the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately 1:15 p.m. about three missing and overdue divers.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, a rescue operation was immediately launched in response to the emergency. Search teams were deployed to locate the divers, who had been submerged in the cave system for an extended period.

Two of the divers were successfully located and brought to safety. They were reportedly rescued without serious injury and are now receiving medical attention. However, despite the efforts of rescue teams, the third diver was found deceased in the cave.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the diver who passed away, citing the need to inform family members first.

The circumstances surrounding the diver’s death remain under investigation, but the rescue operation was said to have been carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has expressed condolences to the family of the deceased diver, and further details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
