DOTHAN, Ala. — Lindsay Shiver, a former beauty queen from Dothan, Alabama, and once a Houston County resident, has been granted bail for the second time as she awaits trial in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire plot aimed at her estranged husband. Shiver, who has been detained at Fox Hill Prison in Nassau, the Bahamas, since October 2024, is set to be released on bail on Thursday, February 13. Her lawyer, Ian Cargill, confirmed the news.
Shiver’s case has captured significant attention since her initial arrest in July 2023, when she was accused of conspiring to have her husband, Robert Shiver, killed while vacationing in the Bahamas. She was arrested alongside her alleged lover, Terrence Bethel, and the two have been in the spotlight ever since. Their involvement in the case escalated after police allegedly uncovered WhatsApp messages between the two, which reportedly included images of Robert Shiver alongside the message “Kill him.” These messages were discovered during an investigation into a break-in at Grabber’s Bar and Grill on Guana Cay, where police had searched a suspect’s phone.
Despite the seriousness of the charges, Shiver and Bethel were initially granted bail but had their bonds revoked in late October 2024. The Bahamian authorities cited their appearances on Good Morning America and Inside Edition in early October as a violation of the country’s pre-trial publicity restrictions. A Bahamian court of appeals upheld the decision in December, ordering that Shiver and Bethel remain incarcerated until their trial.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, Shiver was granted bail again on February 13, 2025. According to her legal team, she will be released under the same bail conditions as before, which will allow her to return to the United States while awaiting her trial. Bethel, who is also facing the same charges, was granted bail alongside Shiver.
The trial, initially scheduled for March 2025, has been postponed and is now set to begin on August 29, 2025. The reasons for the delay have not been disclosed.
Bethel, in an interview on Good Morning America, reiterated the pair’s claims of innocence, vehemently denying any plot to murder Robert Shiver. “Nobody ever wanted him dead,” Bethel said. “I’m definitely not guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, and Faron’s not guilty of being a hired hitman. It’s time to let the world know we’re innocent.”
Authorities allege that Shiver and Bethel, along with a third individual, Faron Newbold Jr., were involved in orchestrating the murder-for-hire scheme. Newbold, who has been accused of acting as a hitman, is also facing charges in connection with the plot.
While the case continues to unfold, it remains unclear why Shiver was granted a second opportunity at bail. The controversy surrounding the case, combined with the media attention it has received, continues to make headlines both in the Bahamas and the United States.
