Dothan, AL – Dothan Fire Department crews responded early in the morning to a natural gas leak in the 1300 block of Fortner Street after a gas line was accidentally struck during work in the area.
Engine companies and the HazMat team from the Dothan Fire Department arrived on scene and coordinated with the Dothan Police Department, Southeast Alabama Gas District, and Pilcher’s Ambulance. Officials worked together for nearly four hours to manage the situation and secure the area.
Crews conducted continuous air monitoring throughout the response and maintained suppression readiness to ensure the safety of both emergency personnel and nearby residents while gas technicians worked to locate and repair the damaged line.
As a precaution, approximately 200 residents were evacuated from the surrounding area with assistance from fire and police personnel.
Once the leak was successfully repaired, officials confirmed the area was secured and no incidents or injuries were reported. The coordinated response from all agencies involved helped bring the situation under control safely.
