DOTHAN, Ala. – Preparations are in full swing for what is considered by many to be the largest celebration in the Circle City. The Krewe of Kolosse Mardi Gras parade is set to mark its 10th anniversary this Saturday, and the excitement is building as organizers work tirelessly to ensure this year’s event is the best one yet.
The parade, which will span three miles, is scheduled to begin at the Solomon Park area before making its way downtown. Officials are expecting large crowds to line the streets for the festive procession, which has become a staple in Dothan’s annual calendar.
Behind the scenes, float creators are putting in long hours to bring their designs to life. More than 20 floats are still being prepared, with many of the workers spending days and nights ensuring every detail is perfect for the big day. The dedication of the participants is evident, as organizers note that the parade has grown significantly in size and quality each year.
Clay Dempsey, an organizer for the Krewe of Kolosse parade, explained the importance of the event’s visual appeal. “All of these people have normal jobs, too, so we are down here right now trying to make this thing work,” he said. “The presentation is key. It would be easy to just throw some old float in there, but every year, someone elevates to the next level, and then someone else sees that and thinks, ‘I should do mine like that.’ That’s how it grows. People start planning and prepping for next year as soon as this one ends.”
With a wide variety of floats, music, and entertainment expected along the route, paradegoers can look forward to a lively atmosphere filled with beads, fun, and celebration. The festivities will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, promising a day of family-friendly enjoyment and community spirit.
As the Krewe of Kolosse continues to grow and make its mark in Southeast Alabama, organizers are confident this year’s Mardi Gras parade will be another unforgettable event for the people of Dothan.
