DOTHAN, Ala. — A Houston County judge has denied a request from Walter Leon Danzey Jr., a suspect in a local murder case, to reduce his bond. Danzey Jr., who is charged with the murder of Damon Goodson, appeared in court on Tuesday seeking either his release on recognizance or a reduction in his $1.5 million bond.
The charges stem from the death of Goodson, who was found with multiple stab wounds near the intersection of West Powell and Linden Street in Dothan. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities arrested Danzey Jr. in connection with the crime.
In the courtroom, Danzey Jr. argued for a bond reduction, but after hearing from both the defense and the prosecution, Judge denied the request, siding with the state. The judge’s decision to keep the bond at $1.5 million means Danzey Jr. will remain in custody while awaiting further proceedings.
Danzey Jr. entered a plea of not guilty during his previous court appearance, indicating that he does not wish to have formal charges read aloud. His legal team has not made a public statement regarding the next steps, though a trial date remains pending.
The case continues to draw attention in Dothan as local residents await further developments in what is sure to be a closely followed trial.
