DOTHAN, Ala. — A Dothan man, already out on bond for a previous murder charge, has been arrested once again after investigators claim he was caught on camera shooting into an occupied apartment building. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon at Martin Home Apartments, located in the 700 block of Tuskegee Avenue.
According to the Dothan Police Department (DPD), officers responded to the scene around 3:45 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon arriving, authorities observed a man matching the suspect’s description running away from the area. After a short foot pursuit, officers apprehended the individual, later identified as Tyshawn Ford.
Ford, who is already facing a capital murder charge in connection with a 2021 shooting death, is now facing multiple charges related to the apartment shooting. The charges include Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Building, Attempted Assault in the First Degree, Domestic Violence in the Third Degree, and Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement.
Lieutenant Scott Owens of the DPD reported that several witnesses and a video circulating on social media show Ford firing into an occupied apartment. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.
This new arrest is not Ford’s first encounter with law enforcement. He was previously out on bond for a capital murder charge in the November 2021 death of Hardy Gray, a Pansey, Alabama man. Gray was discovered by coworkers in his home, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Ford, along with five others, was arrested in connection with the shooting, which remains under investigation.
District Attorney Russ Goodman confirmed that Ford is one of six individuals arrested in the 2021 case. The shooting death of Gray had drawn significant attention, and Ford’s latest actions have raised further concerns about his violent tendencies.
Following his most recent arrest, Ford is currently being held in the Houston County Jail without bond. A judge is expected to revoke his previous bond in light of the new charges.
Chief William Benny expressed gratitude for the community’s role in the investigation, thanking local residents and the police department’s social media investigative team for their swift action. “Thank you to our social media investigative team and our members of the community who reject this type of behavior and aided in this investigation,” said Benny in a statement.
The investigation into the shooting at Martin Home Apartments is ongoing, and authorities have indicated that additional arrests may follow as the case develops.
