DOTHAN, Ala. — A 37-year-old Dothan man, Nathan James Harris, was arrested and booked into the Houston County Jail on Wednesday after authorities claimed he sent sexually explicit images to a 17-year-old teenager in another state.
According to Dothan Police, an investigation was initiated in early March following a tip from law enforcement in another state. Investigators discovered that Harris had been communicating with the juvenile online, where he allegedly sent sexually explicit photos and engaged in a series of inappropriate conversations with the teen.
Harris has been charged with two counts of distributing obscene material and one count of child solicitation by computer. The charges stem from his actions during a days-long interaction with the minor, during which he is said to have tried to proposition the teenager.
Lieutenant Scott Owens of the Dothan Police Department confirmed that authorities are continuing their investigation. “We are still analyzing Harris’ social media accounts and electronic devices,” Owens said. “There may be additional charges as the investigation unfolds.”
Harris’s arrest serves as a reminder of the growing dangers posed by online interactions, particularly for minors. Law enforcement officials are urging parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s online activities to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
The investigation into Harris’s actions remains ongoing, and authorities have yet to rule out the possibility of further charges.
