DOTHAN, Ala. — A local man faces charges of elder abuse after allegedly assaulting a 65-year-old man Thursday morning.
According to Dothan Police Lt. Scott Owens, the incident occurred shortly before 9:00 a.m. at a business located on the 200 block of West Main Street. The suspect, identified as Joshua Beaty, reportedly approached the victim from behind and struck him with a punch.
The assault caused the victim to fall to the ground, resulting in a broken left hip. Emergency responders transported the injured man to a hospital for medical treatment.
Beaty was arrested and charged with one count of assault-elder abuse. He was booked into the Houston County Jail and is being held on a $30,000 bond.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
