DOTHAN, Ala. — A Dothan man accused of killing his wife more than two decades ago has been denied the opportunity to be released before his trial.
Dwight Mills’ request to dismiss murder and corpse abuse charges was rejected Wednesday by Houston County Judge Henry Binford. Mills is accused of killing his wife, Sharon Mills, and disposing of her body in a ditch in the Florida Panhandle in 2001.
In early May, Mills filed a motion seeking to have the charges dismissed, arguing that the autopsy failed to provide definitive proof that his wife’s death was a homicide. His defense attorney, Terry Bullard, asserted that “there is an abundance of evidence that the alleged victim fell into a hole while stopping to urinate on the side of the road in the State of Florida.”
Mills initially made these claims shortly after his arrest in 2024, stating that he and his wife were driving to Florida to purchase alcohol on a Sunday in 2001 when she allegedly fell while they stopped on the roadside.
No trial date has been scheduled at this time.
