DOTHAN, Ala. — The city of Dothan will be bustling with excitement on Saturday, March 1, as the 10th Krewe of Kolosse Mardi Gras Parade rolls through downtown. In preparation for the event, several roads and parking areas will be closed, and the public is urged to take note of the changes.
Road Closures and Parking Restrictions
Beginning at 6:00 a.m. on the day of the parade, a number of downtown streets will be closed to accommodate the festivities. The affected roads include:
- Foster Street, from Savannah Street to Burdeshaw Street
- Troy Street, from South Oates Street to Saint Andrews Street
- Crawford Street, from South Oates Street to Saint Andrews Street
These closures will remain in effect until 9:00 p.m. To avoid having their vehicles towed, drivers are reminded that all cars using street parking must be removed by 6:00 a.m. on March 1. The city has announced that any vehicles left in these areas after the deadline will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Additionally, the Houston County Courthouse parking lot and a portion of the Clock Tower parking lot will be unavailable to the public for the duration of the day.
Parade Route and Attractions
The Krewe of Kolosse Parade will kick off in the afternoon, making its way through Dothan’s historic garden district. Paradegoers can expect to see the colorful procession roll past notable landmarks such as Girard Elementary and Calvary Baptist Church on Montezuma Avenue. The parade route also includes stops at the First United Methodist Church, the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, and the Boys and Girls Club, before making its final stop on Foster Street.
Throughout the day, several locally owned businesses along the parade route will be open to welcome visitors. In addition, several areas will be cordoned off in downtown Dothan to designate family, vendor, and entertainment zones for the public to enjoy.
