Dothan Woman Arrested for Setting Fire to Home with Three People Inside

DOTHAN, Ala. — A Dothan woman was arrested and charged with first-degree arson after police say she deliberately set fire to a home on North Bell Street with three people inside. The incident occurred on Saturday, March 8, and resulted in significant property damage, though no injuries were reported.

Latasha Renae Bryant, 37, was taken into custody on March 15 and booked into the Houston County Jail. According to arrest records, Bryant is facing one count of arson in the first degree. Authorities say she spread an accelerant around the residence before igniting the fire.

The three individuals inside the home at the time of the fire were able to escape unharmed. Police confirmed that Bryant was an acquaintance of those inside the house. The fire caused extensive damage to the home, which was deemed a total loss. Additionally, the fire spread to a neighboring property, causing further damage.

Following her arrest, Bryant was held on a $60,000 bond. As of Tuesday morning, she remains incarcerated at the Houston County Jail.

This case has drawn attention due to the dangerous nature of the crime and the fortunate escape of the individuals involved. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine the motive behind the arson.
