HARTFORD, AL — A 77-year-old woman from Geneva County has died following a house fire that occurred Saturday afternoon in Hartford.
Barbara Carmichael was found dead at her residence on Rose Avenue after the fire broke out. Geneva County Coroner Donny Atkinson confirmed Carmichael’s death and stated that her body will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Alabama Fire Marshal. Authorities have not yet released further details about the incident.
This marks a tragic loss for the local community, and officials are continuing to work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
