HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. — Two Houston County residents stepped in to assist law enforcement during a foot chase on Sunday afternoon, helping to detain a suspect until deputies arrived.
According to reports from Rickey Stokes News, multiple units from the Houston County Sheriff’s Office and Ashford Police Department responded to Oak Creek Lane, just off Bluff Springs Road, after receiving calls about several disorderly individuals yelling in the area. Witnesses described the scene as involving both male and female subjects.
As officers arrived on the scene, at least one suspect reportedly fled on foot, heading into a wooded area between a nearby trailer park and the cemetery at Bluff Springs Church.
Local residents Nick Francis and Kincaid Knight told WDHN they witnessed the chase and decided to intervene. The two say they pursued one of the fleeing individuals into the woods and managed to detain him at gunpoint until deputies caught up and took the suspect into custody.
Francis said deputies thanked both men for their assistance at the scene.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Department is now leading the investigation. Additional details about the suspects involved or potential charges have not yet been released. WDHN has reached out to the sheriff’s department for comment.
