Investigation Underway Following Officer-Involved Shooting in Covington County

COVINGTON COUNTY, Ala. — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday morning in Covington County. The incident, which involved a deputy and Chad Sheehan, is being handled by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation.

According to police reports, dispatch received multiple “911 hang-up” calls from Sheehan, a man with a documented history of domestic violence. In response, a deputy was sent to Sheehan’s residence on County Road 21 in Red Level for a welfare check. Upon arrival, the deputy observed that the lights in the house were on. As the officer approached the property, a vehicle reportedly rammed through a gate and charged toward the deputy.

Sheehan, who was not residing at the house, allegedly exited the vehicle while armed with a firearm and advanced toward the officer. In response, the deputy fired several shots, striking Sheehan. Following the shooting, the deputy immediately provided life-saving measures and transported Sheehan to Andalusia Hospital. Authorities have since confirmed that Sheehan is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Covington County Sheriff Blake Turnman addressed the situation in a press release, assuring the public that there is no ongoing threat from Sheehan. “We will keep the community informed as the situation unfolds,” Turnman said.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is continuing to investigate the incident, and authorities have indicated that charges against Sheehan are anticipated. No further details about the investigation have been released at this time.
