Lightning Strike Causes Early Morning Fire in Coffee County, Ala.

COFFEE COUNTY, Ala. — A home located above Enterprise was severely damaged in a fire early Wednesday morning, caused by a lightning strike during a powerful thunderstorm.

The Coffee County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) reported that the fire began around 3:00 a.m. in the 1200 block of Highway 134, near the intersection of County Road 7. At the time, a severe thunderstorm was moving through the area, bringing heavy rain and intense lightning.

According to EMA Director Grant Lyons, a lightning strike hit both the home and a nearby tree, blowing out a window in the process. The fire spread rapidly, destroying much of the residence. However, Lyons confirmed that firefighters were able to bring the fire under control and prevent further damage, saving several of the family’s possessions.

At least two people were inside the home when the fire started, but fortunately, they were able to escape unharmed. There were no reported injuries.

The New Brockton Fire Department, Enterprise Fire Department, and Goodman Fire Department responded to the scene to assist in controlling the fire.

The cause of the fire has been attributed to the lightning strike, and the family is now receiving support from local emergency services and community organizations as they begin to recover from the loss.
