Dothan, AL – A Dothan woman has been charged after Animal Services officers found several deceased cats and other animals left unattended inside an animal grooming business, according to the Dothan Police Department.
On Aug. 20, 2026, Dothan Animal Services received a report about a strong odor coming from a business in the 3700 block of Ross Clark Circle. Officers noticed the smell as they approached the building and suspected that deceased animals could be inside.
Once inside, officers discovered several cats that had died. Other animals were found alive in enclosures inside the business.
Investigators determined the animals appeared to have been left unattended for approximately a month. They also learned that the business had not had active utilities since June.
Authorities said several nearby businesses reported having complaints about the odor. Investigators were also told that the business owner, 41-year-old Brandi Leann Tyrrell of Midland City, had not been seen in the area for at least three weeks before authorities arrived.
Following the investigation, Tyrrell was charged with two felony counts of first-degree cruelty to a cat and six counts of cruelty to animals.
Police are now asking the public for help locating Tyrrell.
