DOTHAN, Ala. — Several railroad crossings across Dothan will be closed next week for maintenance, according to the city. The closures, which will begin on Monday, January 13, are part of an ongoing effort to replace cross ties and asphalt.
The following railroad crossings will be closed starting on January 13:
- Westgate Parkway, between Bishop Court and Technology Drive
- Murray Road, between Warehouse Drive and Industrial Road
- Headland Avenue, between Railroad Avenue and Depot Street
- North Cherry Street, between Railroad Avenue and East Powell Street
- Lake Street, between Vogel Drive and Bayshore Avenue
Two additional crossings will close on Tuesday, January 14:
- Burdeshaw Street, between Sunset Drive and Bloom Street
- North Beverlye Road, between Kelley Drive and Columbia Highway
CSX officials, who are overseeing the work, have stated that the closures are necessary to replace aging railroad infrastructure, including cross ties and asphalt. The maintenance is expected to last for 2-3 days, although the duration could vary depending on the specific work required at each location.
The closures may have a particular impact on local school bus routes. Dothan City Schools has announced that the closure on Westgate Parkway, between Bishop Court and Technology Drive, will affect transportation to and from Slingluff Elementary School and its associated secondary schools. As a result, some delays in school bus schedules are anticipated.
Drivers and commuters in the area are encouraged to plan for alternate routes and allow extra time for travel during the closures.
