DOTHAN, Ala. — An Ozark man is facing serious charges after allegedly firing several shots into an occupied apartment early Sunday morning, narrowly missing several people inside.
Julius Noel McGuire, 31, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied building following the incident at Jasmine Hill Apartments. Police responded to the scene around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday after receiving reports that several bullets had struck an apartment, where five people were inside, including two children.
Upon arrival, officers found evidence that the gunfire had come dangerously close to hitting those inside, but fortunately, no one was injured. The suspect, identified as McGuire, had fled the scene before police arrived.
Shortly after, authorities received a call about a disturbance at a home on Berkshire Road, where McGuire was reportedly being disorderly. Officers responded and discovered a firearm that, according to preliminary investigations, appeared to match the shell casings found at the shooting scene.
According to Ozark Police, the altercation was the result of a heated argument between McGuire and his ex-girlfriend, with whom he shares a child. The shooting is believed to have stemmed from this personal dispute, escalating into violence.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, and McGuire remains in custody. The case raises concerns about the dangers of domestic violence and gun access during heated confrontations.
The community is urged to contact Ozark Police if they have any additional information related to the shooting. As the investigation unfolds, police are working to gather more details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting and ensure that justice is served for all involved.
