COVINGTON COUNTY, Ala. – A two-vehicle collision in Covington County on Sunday has resulted in the death of a 4-year-old child and left four others injured. The crash occurred along Alabama 55, near the 45-mile marker, when an SUV carrying five people collided with a truck driven by an 18-year-old.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the 4-year-old, who was a passenger in the SUV, was critically injured in the crash. The child was airlifted to a local hospital but tragically succumbed to injuries shortly after arriving.
The driver of the truck, an 18-year-old male, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. He sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. In addition to the 4-year-old, the SUV also contained a 34-year-old woman and two other children—one 5 years old and the other 4 years old. All three were injured in the crash. The children were taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention, while the mother was airlifted to a hospital in Pensacola for further treatment.
The ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division is continuing its investigation into the crash, but authorities have not released additional information at this time. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
