DOTHAN, Ala. — A winter storm continues to affect parts of the Wiregrass region, leaving customers without power in several areas. As snow continues to fall, both Alabama Power and Wiregrass Electric have reported outages, although the numbers remain relatively low as of late Monday evening.
According to Alabama Power, fewer than five customers in Cowarts, Abbeville, Eufaula, and Fort Novosel are currently without power. A slightly higher number of outages has been reported in Slocomb, where about 25 customers are affected. Crews are working to restore power to these areas as quickly as possible.
Wiregrass Electric, which services smaller communities in the region, reported that six customers in Crosby are experiencing power disruptions. The utility company has not indicated when power will be fully restored, but it continues to monitor the situation closely.
As of 8:45 p.m., the region has received several inches of snow, with up to 6 inches possible in some isolated areas. Local authorities have warned residents to stay safe and exercise caution, as road conditions are expected to worsen overnight.
The storm is expected to continue impacting the Wiregrass region through the night, with snow accumulation and cold temperatures posing further challenges. Both utilities and local emergency responders are urging residents to be prepared for more outages and hazardous conditions.
