Winter Storm Causes Power Outages Across Wiregrass Region

Dothan, Ala. — A winter storm sweeping through the Wiregrass region has left dozens of customers without power this morning, with significant snowfall and icy conditions expected to continue throughout the day.

According to Dothan Utilities, only two customers in Dothan were without power as of 6:30 a.m. However, the storm’s impact was more widespread in neighboring areas. Alabama Power reported power outages affecting customers in several cities across the region. In Enterprise, 17 customers were without power, while 21 customers around Midland City also experienced outages. Additionally, fewer than five customers in Abbeville and Columbia were affected by the storm.

Wiregrass Electric reported that three customers near Samson had lost power, and Pear River Electric indicated that nine customers in northern Dale County were also without service.

The storm is expected to bring 3-5 inches of snow to the region, with some isolated areas possibly seeing up to six inches of accumulation. The combination of snow and ice has led to hazardous travel conditions, further complicating efforts to restore power.

Local authorities and power companies are urging residents to stay safe and prepared for continued disruptions as the storm progresses. The situation is being monitored closely, and updates will be provided as conditions evolve.
