Dothan Businessman Josh Chapman Announces Candidacy for District 4 Commissioner

DOTHAN, Ala. — A local businessman has entered the race for Dothan’s District 4 commissioner seat ahead of the August municipal elections. Josh Chapman, the owner of Open Key Property Management, officially announced his candidacy, seeking to replace current Commissioner John Ferguson, who has held the position for 12 years.

In his announcement, Chapman, a devoted husband and father, outlined his qualifications and passion for public service. He brings a decade of experience as a civil engineer before transitioning into real estate investment in 2021. Chapman expressed his drive for solving complex issues, stating that this passion is what fuels both his professional endeavors and his desire to serve the community.

“I’ve always enjoyed solving problems and finding solutions to complex issues,” Chapman said in a statement. “That’s what drives me, both in my career and in my desire to serve Dothan.”

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chapman has an extensive history of community involvement. He has served as president of the Dothan Rotary Club, chairman of the Board for both the Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center and Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity, and president of the Dothan American Society of Civil Engineers. Additionally, Chapman is currently the chair of the Hospitality Committee at First United Methodist Church in Dothan.

Chapman emphasized that his leadership experiences and ability to collaborate are key aspects of his campaign. “I love dreaming with others, crafting new ideas, and planning, but most importantly, I focus on implementing solutions that make a difference,” he said.

As a candidate, Chapman has outlined a vision centered on responsible development, economic growth, and the continued revitalization of Dothan’s downtown area. He also expressed a strong commitment to improving the overall quality of life for the city’s residents.

“My campaign is built on a proven track record of leadership, professional expertise, and a clear vision for the future of Dothan,” Chapman remarked. “As city commissioner, I’ll bring relevant knowledge, a collaborative spirit, and a dedication to ensuring Dothan continues to flourish.”

The upcoming municipal election is set for Tuesday, August 5th, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. As Chapman gears up for the race, he remains focused on his goal of contributing to Dothan’s continued success and growth.
