Dothan, AL – The Dothan Police Department recently completed its 22nd Junior Police Academy, giving local students an opportunity to learn more about law enforcement and public safety through hands-on experiences.
The two-week program, which ran from June 6 through June 17, brought together 26 students from 22 different schools and homeschool organizations across the Wiregrass area.
Hosted at the Wiregrass Public Safety Center, the Junior Police Academy provided students with an inside look at the many roles and responsibilities of the Dothan Police Department and other law enforcement agencies.
Throughout the program, participants learned about various aspects of police work while gaining exposure to the training, equipment, and services used by public safety professionals.
The Dothan Police Department said the academy gave students an action-packed summer experience while helping build positive relationships between young people and law enforcement.
Department officials thanked the Dothan Police Foundation and Wiregrass RC&D for their support in making the program possible and helping provide educational opportunities for local youth.
The Junior Police Academy is designed to encourage students to explore careers in public safety while promoting leadership, teamwork, and community involvement.
