Dothan schools receive funding boost through Southeast Gas “Give Back to Schools” program

Dothan, AL – Southeast Gas has announced the distribution of $140,688 to 20 public school systems in 2026 as part of its annual “Give Back to Schools” initiative, with local funding going to Dothan City Schools and Houston County Schools.

According to the company, Dothan City Schools received $14,485, while Houston County Schools received $7,764 through the program. Officials said more than $2 million has been returned to local public schools since the initiative began in 2010.

The program, created by Southeast Gas and its Board of Directors, allocates funding based on each school system’s natural gas usage from the previous year. Systems with higher usage receive larger financial returns.

Dothan Mayor and Southeast Gas Board Member Mark Saliba worked with Dothan City Schools Superintendent Garrick Askew and Houston County Schools Superintendent Brandy White to determine how the funds would be used.

Southeast Gas President and CEO Greg Henderson said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to local education and community investment, noting that many employees attended public schools in the region.

In addition to the annual funding program, Southeast Gas also offers a Community Service Scholarship for graduating seniors in its service area. The scholarship amount was increased this year to $2,000 to help reduce financial barriers for students.

The company serves more than 33,000 customers across 36 communities in Southeast Alabama and is owned by 14 cities, including Dothan, Enterprise, and Ozark. Officials said the utility continues to focus on economic development, philanthropy, and community engagement throughout the region.
