DOTHAN, Ala. — A winter storm is forecasted to bring freezing temperatures and up to two inches of snow to the Wiregrass region early this week, prompting local authorities to issue weather advisories and make preparations for potential disruptions.
According to Wiregrass Electric, power usage in the area is expected to peak between January 20 and 23, with the highest demand occurring from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. each day. To help reduce strain on the power grid and lower electricity costs, officials are advising residents to carefully manage the use of high-power appliances during these hours. Items such as ovens, water heaters, dryers, and washing machines are among the appliances that should be used sparingly during peak times.
The National Weather Service has issued warnings for the region, predicting that all Wiregrass counties could receive at least two inches of snow. This winter weather, combined with freezing temperatures, is expected to create hazardous conditions, especially on the roads. Local school systems have already announced closures for Tuesday and Wednesday as icy conditions are anticipated to make travel unsafe.
As the storm progresses, authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe and prepared for potential power outages and severe weather.
