Severe Storms Possible in Dothan Area This Afternoon, Another Round Expected Over the Weekend

DOTHAN, Ala. — Residents of the Wiregrass region are bracing for the potential of strong-to-severe storms throughout this afternoon. The National Weather Service has warned that these storms could bring damaging winds of up to 60 mph and hail the size of quarters. While widespread rain and storms have already moved through the area this morning, no severe weather warnings have been issued as of press time.

The storms are expected to continue through approximately 10 a.m., with another round of potential severe weather possible after 1 p.m. The severity of this afternoon’s storms largely depends on the level of instability in the atmosphere. If the morning storms deplete the “instability,” the risk of severe weather will be reduced. However, if the atmosphere remains unstable, isolated severe weather events remain possible.

By sunset, conditions are expected to dry up, with clear skies anticipated overnight. As the week progresses, temperatures are expected to rise, but no further precipitation is forecasted for the rest of the week.

Looking ahead to the weekend, forecasters are monitoring another possible round of severe weather, with much of the Wiregrass region facing a level two (slight) risk of severe storms. This threat is expected to begin Sunday evening and continue into Monday morning, prompting residents to stay alert for any updates.

For now, locals are advised to stay informed of changing conditions, especially as the storm system continues to develop this afternoon.
